Extant and Past Vegetation and Climate Dynamics
Climate, natural disturbance regimes and human impacts govern the development of plant communities and ecosystems. During the Quaternary and especially since the end of the last Ice Age 15000 years ago the vegetation in the Alps and adjacent mountain ranges has disassembled and reassembled several times and in different rates of changes. We investigate extant and (Late-)Quaternary climate and vegetation dynamics in space and time by means of palaeoecological, palynological (pollen and non-pollen palynomorphs) and palaeoethnobotanical (archaeobotanical) methods, and by monitoring the actual flora and vegetation.
