Urosolenia (Bacillariophyceae) Monograph Part 2: Temperate taxa

Research questions

Urosolenia (Bacillariophyceae)The genus Urosolenia (Bacillariophyceae) comprises several species of weakly silicified freshwater euplanktonic centric diatoms which have been overlooked, underexplored and misclassified for many years. We hypothesize that based on the existing monograph of tropical taxa, it would be possible to delimit wide spread temperate taxa (from Europe and N-America) including studies of the first species described and their original material. The methodology requires a polyphasic approach using light microscopic (LM), scanning electron microscopic (SEM) studies and the consideration of life cycle variability within and between habitats.
