Reduction of the invasive neophytes Solidago canadensis and S. gigantea in Vinschgau Valley, South Tyrol (2010-2011)

Reduction of the invasive neophytes Solidago canadensis and S. gigantea in Vinschgau Valley, South TyroIn most central european regions, the invasive neophytes Solidago canadensis and S. gigantea are already common. They cause increasing problems, among others in nature conservation field. In Vinschgau Valley, an inneralpine area with distinctive flora and vegetation, the two species at present don`t occur frequently.
In this project within the whole valley the existing populations of the species shall be mapped and – if possible – removed. In the future an ongoing monitoring and removal of the plants shall prevent a re-expansion. It is intended to inhibit in this way a spreading of the species in the long run. Information on the spread of the species and efficiency of reduction are gathered.
