Inhalt: Climate change can impact plant populations both directly and indirectly, by altering how plants interact with other community members. Based on work in our group conducted primarily in mountain ecosystems, I will present evidence that altered biotic interactions – especially novel interactions formed as species shift their distributions with changing climate, can be pivotal for the persistence of plant populations, plant community structure and ecosystem processes such as carbon cycling following climate change.
