The University of Warwick (Warwick) is one of the highest ranking academic institutions in the UK, being ranked 7 of the full service universities in the last UK Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) in 2008. Warwick HRI (WHRI) was ranked top out of 30 in its unit of assessment (Agriculture, Veterinary and Food Sciences departments) in this UK RAE due to excellence in plant and crop science. In 2010 WHRI became incorporated into the Warwick School of Life Sciences (WSLS) which retains a significant complement of plant and crop scientists as part of both the Warwick Crop Centre for applied research and the strategic "Translational Crop Genetics" and basic "Regulatory Plant Mechanisms" themes at the Wellesbourne campus. The staff has multidisciplinary expertise to conduct fundamental research built around Arabidopsis and to translate that knowledge into crop plants aided by intimate contact with industry customers and applied problems.
