Which virtual organisation should I join?

Each VO of the LFU will be described shortly:

  • zid: Zentraler Informatik Dienst, University of Innsbruck

  • dps: Distributed and Parallel Systems (Institute of Computer Science, University of Innsbruck)

  • lehre: For all Students at the University of Innsbruck.

  • hpc: High Performance Computing (HPC) - Consortium, University of Innsbruck

  • hephy: High Energy Physics Groups (Institute of Astro- and Particle Physics, University of Innsbruck and University of Vienna)

  • astro: Astrophysics (Institute of Astro- and Particle Physics, University of Innsbruck)

Request for joining a virtual organisation at the LFU Innsbruck

  1. Choose a virtual organisation by clicking on it (for this tutorial the VO astro is used).

  2. Click on New user registration in the menu For VO users. You get a form to fill out:

  3. Insert the needed information marked with red. Give phone numbers only with number and optionally with a + in the beginning, no slashes. And click on I have read and agreed to the VO's Usage Rules.

  4. The next page repeats your inputs and tells you that you will receive an email to confirm your email address.

  5. Visit the link that is sent to you via email. As indicated in the email, to be sure that the right certificate is installed in your browser, copy the link and paste in in the same browser that you used to submit the request.

  6. Getting a message like this on the browser, means that everything went well and you have to wait for the answer by the administrator of your selected virtual organisation. The successful email-address confirmation will also be mailed to you.

  7. Finally you will get an email by the VO Administrator telling that your request has been accepted.

Virtual Organisations


VOCE

In order to have the opportunity to directly support researchers from Central European region (Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia), the Virtual Organisation for Central Europe (VOCE) computing service has been established.
Use theses links for further information about VOCE and VOCE registration.



LCG

To join this virtual organisation is only useful for members of the LCG-group (LHC Computing Grid). Ask your co-workers which VO you should join.
