Data analysis

The interstellar medium (ISM) is imprinting its spectral signatureress on the light of stars in route to the observer. A complex chemistry mixture causes abortions called diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs). Up to now one suspects that the carriers of these features are Polycyclic Aromatic Hydro-Carbons (PAHs) and Fullerene molecules and ions (e.g. the soccer molecule C60). They are extensively studied for a long time in the blue optical light, but without final clear identifications of practically all of their features. Extensive infrared studies are still pending.
