1980-1984 - Degree course in Foreign Languages and Literatures obtained at the Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia of the University Federico II of Naples.

1986-1988 - Doctoral degree course (PhD equivalent) in Modern Philology, Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia of the University Federico II of Naples; dissertation on The English Language in Malta.

1989-1991 - Tutoring and external examining for "History of the English Language" undergraduate courses at the Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia of the University Federico II of Naples.

1991-1993 - Tutoring and external examining for "English Language and Linguistics" undergraduate courses, plus dissertation supervising, at the Facoltà di Magistero of the University "Suor Orsola Benincasa" of Naples.

1990-1992 - Temporary teaching position for English Language at the University of Molise (Campobasso), Facoltà di Economia e Scienze Sociali.

1996-1998 - Lecturer (ricercatore, permanent position acquired through national exam) in English Language at the Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia of the Second University of Naples.

1998-2001 - Associate professor (permanent position acquired through national exam) in English Language and Linguistics at the Facoltà di Scienze della Formazione of the University of Palermo.

2001-2006 – Transferred (with the same position as above) to the Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia of the University of Naples "Federico II".

1998, 2001, 2002 – Teaching modules within the European Master Degree in the Linguistics and Sociolinguistics of the Languages of Europe.

2004-2005, Winter Semester - Guest Professor at the Institut f. Anglistik u. Amerikanistik, University of Vienna.

2005-2006, Winter Semester - Guest Professor at the Institut f. Anglistik u. Amerikanistik, University of Vienna.

Spring Semester 2008 – Guest professorship at the Institut f. Anglistik u. Amerikanistik, University of Vienna.

Spring Semester 2010 – Senior Fellowship grant at IFK in Vienna for a research project on the representation of pathos in drama and art of the Middle Ages.

1st Sept 2006-28th February 2011: Full professor in English Language and Linguistics at the University of Cagliari, Facoltà di Lingue e Letterature Straniere.

1st March 2011- Professor for English Linguistics at the University of Innsbruck.

May 2012 - Vice President of AAUTE
