DATABASE ASSISTING STUDENTS

The Database Assisting Students provides information on many different aspects of literary and cultural studies; it has been designed to assist students in dealing with both their coursework and the massive amount of material available on the net. The database contains a collection of links to websites devoted to the study of North American literature and culture, to websites of specific authors and publishers as well as to sites which provide historical and encyclopaedic overviews. The "online writing lab" offers guidelines for writing academic papers and essays and includes sections on how to give bibliographical information and how to quote and cite according to the MLA system. The core reading list informs students of both the primary and secondary literature they will need for their "Leseliste" exams; additionally, it advises students on where these texts can be found in the library. Although the content of this database mirrors the topics and areas of the Department's literary and cultural studies courses, it also wants to encourage informed independent research by students themselves. This website will continue to expand, adding new authors, material, and web resources; please feel free to contact us with comments, suggestions, and feedback
