American Corner Innsbruck

"New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina - Then & Now" event and film series.

On September 15, 2015, the American Corner Innsbruck and the Center New Orleans of the University of Innsbruck projected the first installment of Spike Lees documentary “When The Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts” in a small auditorium at the university. This was the first scheduled screening of all four acts of the documentary depicting the events and aftermath of Hurricane Katrina chronologically with actual media footage and in retrospect through interviews with survivors. Following the film there was commentary by evacuee Karin Schmid-Gerlich from the U.S. Embassy in Vienna and by Hanna Witt, a survivor of the storm who gave her own “Katrina story”. Over beverages at a light reception, participants discussed aspects of this important piece of American history and of the film itself.
