Study Programmes

The Department of Atmospheric and Cryospheric Sciences offers a full degree programme in Atmospheric Sciences, from Bachelor to Master and PhD. Our teaching covers all the core subjects of the dynamics, physics, chemistry of the atmosphere-cryosphere-climate system and includes prerequisites from mathematics, statistics, physics and earth sciences. We live in the mountains and a focus of our research is on processes and phenomena related to mountains and snow and ice. This also shows in our teaching.

MSc in Atmo­spheric Sciences

The intermediate academic degree for students, who want to acquire more in-depth skills and knowledge after the Bachelor's degree. In English in an international cohort.

MSc in Envi­ron­men­tal Mete­o­ro­logy

This program at the interface between meteorology and the environment is jointly offered by the University of Trento and the University of Innsbruck in English.

PhD in Atmo­s­phe­ric Sciences

The top academic degree – for students who are exceptionally independent, creative and persevering in their work and research.

Semester abroad with ERASMUS+

The International Relations Office administers the program and offers extensive information on their website. Our department handles only the program-specific details such as nomination and the approval of course you plan to take. You can choose among four universities, with which we have exchange agreements: Bergen (Norway), Berlin, Madrid, Wageningen (Netherlands). Application deadlines are April for the winter semester, and September for the summer semester. If you have questions for aspects not covered by the International Relations Office , please contact our Associate Dean of Studies Prof. Georg MAYR .

As student representatives we are the first point of contact for students. Our aim is to make studying at our institute as comfortable as possible. If you have suggestions for courses, but do not want to address them personally, feel free to contact us. You can also tell us if you have a problem with a teacher or other students. We are also organizing some events during the semester to get together students of all semesters. These events will be announced at our OLAT course.
