Boundary Layer Meteorology

The atmospheric Boundary Layer plays an important role in exchange processes between the atmosphere and the solid Earth. Theoretical understanding and treatment is mostly limited to ideal terrain (horizontally homogeneous and flat, HHF) or ‘ideally disturbed’ terrain (e.g., gentle hills or simple AB-transitions in surface properties). The research interest at ACINN is to investigate the dynamics and boundary layer structure in truly complex terrain – as it prevails over large parts of the globe (at least over land).
