QISM is a new conference series that focuses on the interplay of quantum information and
statistical mechanics. The goal of the conference is to bring together scholars from quantum
information theory and statistical mechanics to explore emerging connections between these
fields. The program will include a number of introductory and overview talks, as well as
presentations on latest developments. The first meeting of this series was held at El Escorial,
Spain, in 2011.
In this second conference, a broad selection of topics will be covered
ranging from "Quantum simulation and lattice gauge theories", "Quantum information and the
foundations of statistical mechanics", "Statistical physics of complex systems", and
"Thermodynamics and gravity".
Innsbruck is situated in the middle of the Alps, at an altitude of about 570m. Innsbruck has
hosted the Olympic winter games twice, but it is also a popular destination in summer or
autumn. Sights include the historic old town,
Ambras Castle, and the
ski jump arena at Bergisel,
but also cable cars that offer quick access to the mountains, with scenic views of Innsbruck
and the Inn valley.
The conference will be held at
Grauer Bär, a classic 4* Hotel which is in walking distance to the city center - see

The conference will start on Saturday, Sep. 22, at 9:00, and finish on Tuesday, Sept. 25,
early afternoon. We will have a total of 19 invited talks (60 min each) and a Poster session.
On Sunday, an excursion will be organized in the afternoon, followed by the conference dinner
in the evening.
The conference is sponsored by the SFB project "Foundations and applications of quantum
science" (FoQuS), the Institute of Theoretical Physics, University of Innsbruck and the
Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
Due to space limitations, the number of participants will be limited.
