Supplemental examination in applied geometry is required before completion of the bachelor's degree programme if this subject was not completed satisfactorily with at least 4 credit hours at a higher-level secondary school ("Oberstufe") after the eighth grade.

Studies Induction and Orientation Stage (STEOP)

Studies Induction and Orientation Stage (STEOP) starting winter term 2016 »

(1) Within the scope of the Studies Induction and Orientation Stage, which takes place in the first semester, the following course examinations must be passed:

1. SL Orientation (CM B01.1 / 5 hrs. / 10 ECTS-Credits),
2. VO Contemporary Culture (CM B04.2 / 1 h. / 1 ECTS-Credit),
3. VO Urban and Rural Landscapes (CM B04.5 / 1 h. / 1 ECTS-Credit).

(2) Successful passing of all exams of the Studies Induction and Orientation Stage entitles to passing all further courses and examinations as well as to writing the Bachelor's Theses.

(3) Before successful completion of the Studies Induction and Orientation Stage courses amounting to 18 ECTS-Credits may be passed. The requirements specified in the curriculum must be met.

Studies Induction and Orientation Stage (STEOP) winter term 2014 until december 2015

The Studies Induction and Orientation Stage (STEOP) requirements cease to be effective as of academic year 2014/2015 and no longer apply for students of this study programme.

Students who enrolled for this programme before 1 October 2014 (academic year 2014/2015) can repeat not successful completed courses which were designated in the curriculum as “STEOP courses” four times (= five examination attempts). As per Universities Act § 77 (2), previous attempts are to be counted among the number of total examination attempts permitted.

Studies Induction and Orientation Stage (STEOP) until summer term 2014 »

(1) The Studies Induction and Orientation Stage (STEOP), with a duration of one semester (30 ECTS-Credits), provides an overview of the study programme and its structure in order to give students an objective basis to assess their decision to pursue their chosen subjects.

(2) During the Studies Induction and Orientation Stage, the followig course examinations, which may be repeated twice, must be completed satisfactorily:

1. SL Study Orientation Course (B01.1 / 5 h / 10 ECTS-Credits)
2. VO Contemporary Culture (B04.2 / 1 h/ 1 ECTS-Credits)
3. VO City and Landscape (B04.5 / 1 h/ 1 ECTS-Credits)

(3) A positive result (passing grade) on the examinations specified in Paragraph 2 permits students to attend all courses and take all examinations following the Studies Induction and Orientation Stage (STEOP) and to write bachelor's theses as described in the curriculum. The registration requirements specified by the curriculum must be met.

General Information

Recommended Course Sequence

The exemplary course sequence given below is recommended for full-time students beginning their study programme in the winter semester. The table shows one possible course sequence for the bachelor's programme and is not compulsory. Delays resulting from repeated examinations are not taken into account.

The standard duration of the study programme is 6 semesters or 180 ECTS-Credits, whereby according to the Universities Act of 2002, a workload of 1,500 (real) hours per academic year must be fulfilled, corresponding to 60 ECTS-Credits (one ECTS-Credit is equivalent to a workload of 25 hours).

Qualification Profile and Skills

The Bachelor's Programme Architecture imparts fundamental practical and theoretical knowledge of architecture. Acquired skills include planning and design as well as the fundamentals of urban development, landscape architecture, interior design, construction and building physics.

Particular value is placed on the cultural and social aspects of architecture. The basis is the acquisition of the fundamentals of the theory and history of architecture.

The study programme imparts an understanding of the interaction of various disciplines in the planning and building processes as well as the interrelations with other artistic and technical disciplines. Interdisciplinary and team-oriented thinking and work are as much a part of the qualfication profile as the ability to communicate and to present effectively, including the use of new media. Accompanying practical experience and semesters abroad are promoted to provide students career preparation with a practical and international focus.

The modular structure of the Bachelor's Programme Architecture revolves around the focal point "design" as the central interdisciplinary module, consisting of the introductory phase, compulsory and free electives. In addition to technical critical faculties, an ethical approach to the profession with aesthetic considerations is the clear aim of the Bachelor's Programme Architecture.

Expected Learning Outcomes

Graduates are familiar with the technical and social aspects of their profession. They are able to think on interdisciplinary levels and understand the artistic-scientific nature of architecture. The are capable of translating creative thinking into architectural designs and possess the artistic and technical means to demonstrate this.

Future Prospects: Occupational Profiles and Career Opportunities

Completion of the bachelor's programme prepares graduates for

  • Qualified positions in architectural and planning offices and in public administration,
  • General advisory and organisational activities in the field of architecture.
