How do we survive our death?
What is the conference about?
Biological death amounts to the end of the human organism. Nevertheless many people believe in life after death. The Judeo-Christian tradition believes that the human person lives on after death because God acts to make it happen. Biological death means a transformation but not the end of personal existence.
Hope in resurrection is a matter of faith. This does not mean, however, that we cannot strive to elucidate its content. The aim of the conference is to clarify the presuppositions of the belief in life after death: What of our earthly existence continues to live? Which features of the human person are indispensable for surviving death? How can we talk about personal identity on the evidence of death? What does resurrection of the person mean? Our conference is meant to provide a panel for discussing these questions.
