Analogies and conclusions by analogy
PROJECT FOCUS
Analogies in Theological
Explanations: Analogies play a central role in scientific and theological
explanations. As part of the research project we first render a general
investigation of this topic and the subject of conclusions by analogy. For this
purpose the classical framework of philosophy of science is used. Specifically
we tie in with the works of J. M. Bochenski, C. G. Hempel and M. Bunge.
Afterwards the investigation is extended to the context of justification of
theories needed for such explanations (based on the classical investigations on
the context of discovery). Results from this study are then applied to
traditional problems of philosophy of religion (e.g. to the problem of evil, to
the problem of compatibility of simplicity and Trinity etc.).
