A thin sheet of mica in the middle of the tube bears the powdery phosphorescent material: Scheelit (CaWO₄+CuWO₄) or a mixture of BaSO₄, L₂SO₄ and bismuth oxide are phosorescent in the blue range, mixtures of CaS and MnSO₄ emit in the green, SrSO₄ and CuSO₄ emit in the pink range , MgSO₄ and MnSO₄ emit red light, and mixtures of MgSO₄ and CdSO₄ emit intensive yellow light.
