The two months that I have spent at the Canada Centre (May-June 2006), working as a guest professor in the area of e-learning, were most pleasant, enjoyable and productive. Much of this is due to the kind and generous assistance of the Canada Centre, in terms of its programs, ist infrastructure, and, most importantly, the individuals associated with it. Magdalena Stiftinger, the coordinator of the centre during my stay, was helpful at every turn, assisting me with matters administrative, practical, linguistic, cultural, and more. Dr. Ursula Moser, director of the Canadian Centre, was consistently supportive and accommodating. Also, Theo Hug--formally associated with the Institut für Erziehungswissenschaft, but also a friend of the Canada centre-provided detailed assistance and support indispensable to both my teaching and research in Austria. All of these individuals helped in different ways to ensure that my writing, teaching and participation in conferences both in Innsbruck and elsewhere in the region were successful and productive. The monetary and infrastructure support of the Canada Centre were naturally also important, giving me the means and liberty to accomplish a great deal during my stay. Of course, Innsbruck and the area around it provided a splendid backdrop for all of this activity. Rich in culture and endowed with great natural beauty, the city provided a wonderful place to relax and learn.

'The Canada Zentrum at the University of Innsbruck is a major contributor to the University’s reputation in social science, and particularly political science. It has played an important role in increasing the visibility and knowledge of Canada in Austria and vice-versa.
On my two visits, I found the facilities excellent, the staff efficient, kind and courteous, and the environment conducive for productive research. Much of the work for the 6th edition of my best selling ( now 100,000 copies) was done there. Unlike my experiences at some Centres around the world, I felt immediately at ease, well serviced and quickly able to advance my work in a very congenial and collegiate atmosphere. During the two periods there, I sent several students over to the Centre from my SOWI courses on Canada and North America and they were immediately helped—some even got assistance with trips and research in Canada - one even went to the Arctic. As for me personally, the Centre was instrumental in helping me gain contacts at the University generally and other equivalent European Centres.
I am convinced that the Centre will continue to grow in respect both inside and outside Austria and continue to be a credit to the University of Innsbruck.'
