Research activity

Since 2009 Abundance, genetic diversity, and population structure of plasmodiophorids in an alpine valley (Rotmoosferner, Ötztaler Alpen) (funded by the young researches programme of the University Innsbruck).
Since 2009 Plasmodiophorora brassicae in Tyrolean agricultural regions. In cooperation with the Tyrolean Chamber of Agriculture (DI Alfred Unmann; complementary research for the Herta Firnberg Projekt).
Since 2008 Herta-Firnberg Research Grant (FWF; project T379): "Sorosphaera viticola Kirchmair, Neuhauser & Huber a newly-discovered endoparasite of Vitis sp.: Life cycle, Distribution and Ecology." at the Institute of Microbiology, University Innsbruck.
March 06 – Feb. 08 Working as freelancer for Mykon (www.mykon.at). My field of duties includes on-site inspections, identification of microorganisms (moulds and bacteria), product testing according to international standard-protocols and PCR-based detection of the dry rot fungus (Serpula lacrymans).
Oct 05 – April 06 Research assistant at the „Institut für Agrarökologie, Abt. Berglandwirtschaft“ (University Innsbruck).
Feb – May 2006 Cooperation with the Medical University of Innsbruck (Department of Hygiene, Microbiology and Social Medicine) to develop a PCR-based assay for the detection of the human pathogenic fungus Histoplasma capsulatum in its natural substrate (bat guano).
Since Nov 2004 Member of the BISGRAM Team Innsbruck (BISGRAM= Biological soilborn grape pest management). BISGRAM is an interdisciplinary research inactive based on the cooperation between the Institute of Microbiology of the Leopold-Franzens-Universtiy Innsbruck, the Institute of Zoology of the University of Mainz (Germany) and the Department for Grapevine Breeding and Grafting of the Geisenheim Research Center (Germany).
Since Nov 2004 Member of the BIPESCO Team Innsbruck. One research focus was the biological control of grape phylloxera with enthomopathogenic fungi.

Jan – Oct 2003 Diploma thesis at the "Bundesanstalt für Alpenländische Milchwirtschaft Rotholz" in cooperation with fife dairy companies in Austria and Germany.

Teaching experience

Since 2008: Lecture „Soil-borne plant pathogens (fungi)” within the Master-program “Microbiology” of the University Innsbruck.
Since 2008: Teaching position for the practical course ” Basic methods for the Identification of Bacteria and Fungi”.
