American Corner Innsbruck

“Studying English at the University of Innsbruck”
School visit at the AGI, May 22, 2015

On May 22, 2015, three American Corner Innsbruck representatives, Johnny DeMaine, Andrew Williams and Oliver Steiniger, visited Mag. Rosmarie Knoflach’s English class at the Akademisches Gymnasium Innsbruck (AGI). To a full class of around 26 students, the ACI gave an informative presentation on what the ACI does and can provide, as well as studying English at the University of Innsbruck . As most of the students would be graduating in the next year, they took interest in the information provided by these native English-speakers, two of whom are currently students of the bachelor and teacher training program in English provided at the University of Innsbruck. Two cultural quizzes of the UK and USA were done in groups and gone over together as a class. It gave a taste as to what types of things could be expected in the cultural studies portion of the university studies and all of the students participated enthusiastically and enjoyed the activity. Many took advantage of the opportunity to ask questions. The ACI also provided learning and teaching materials to the teacher made available by the US Embassy in Vienna. All in all, it was a treat for the students to have some native speakers of English as guests in their class and the ACI did a great job of engaging the students, having fun and providing them with valuable information as well.
